In December, my work will be shown at Galerie Ligne Treize in Geneva. I have exhibited here twice before as part of the Ceramics Biennale. The gallery is located in the atmospheric district of Carouge.
"Dutch ceramicist Henk Wolvers has been exhibiting around the world since 1979. For his third exhibition at Galerie Ligne Treize, he presents a series of porcelain unique objects and wall compositions.
His subtle objects, mostly cylindrical in shape, are made of a thin sheet of porcelain, or composed of very thin plates. The material is smooth, flowing and even transparent. Its perfect simplicity lets us see decorations consisting of lines, undulations and even lace-like work, which give the object tension. White plays an important role, as a smooth, powdery or translucent contrast to the material.
In his work, Henk Wolvers affirms the relationship between object and space.
By exploiting the possibilities of porcelain, he expresses the object's globality, the close connection between material, form, movement and light."

For the third time I will have a solo exhibition in the beautiful gallery "Around Space Living" The gallery is located in the heart of the charming district "The French Concession". Gallery owners Ming Ming and Jeff personally made a selection of my work in my studio this spring.
"I finally re-visited Henk Wolvers’ studio after three years.
Stepping into a familiar space, I was attracted by his works at the end of the hall immediately. A dash of shining and sophisticated golden hue brightened my heart in no time.
This is not the first time Henk Wolvers used gold in his artworks. The original inspiration came from his encounter with Japanese culture and artifacts. Those gold elements often appear in ambiguous spaces, shimmering in the dark and indicating certain substance, yet ephemeral and intangible.
In the last two years, experimenting with new styles and techniques, Henk gradually focused his attention on gold which became a center of his art practice. The artworks exhibited in this show share the same gold subject matter. The metal characteristics of gold balances the tension of contrast between black and white in his work most effectively. We peruse every detail of each work and enjoy every little gold glitter over and over, as if listening to a piece of music composed with the whispers of gold.
This is the third solo exhibition Henk Wolvers has had at AroundSpace Living. Each time we notice different surprises and changes and we are thrilled to see Henk’s art practice evolve and develop naturally and ceaselessly.
This time it is the touch of gold that strikes me and brings me hope and expectations for life and the future!"

Exhibition "China character - The story on porcelain" in Haags Gemeentemuseum
Elegant brushstrokes with an instant appeal to the imagination: Chinese characters have something truly magical about them. Not only because of their intrinsic beauty – to Western eyes at least – but also because of their wonderful symbolism and the often extraordinary stories they can tell. The Gemeentemuseum lets Chinese porcelain speak for itself by unravelling the mysteries behind the characters inscribed on it. China Character is an exhibition replete with stories that will transport you to different parts of China. Stories of customs, beliefs, love, mythical figures and historical events.
The exhibition is a collaborative initiative by a number of institutions with important holdings of oriental ceramics. On show: porcelain with painted characters from more than 15 Dutch museums and private collections, plus a range of contemporary interpretations by David Derksen, Hella Jongerius, Hans van Koolwijk, Jelle Mastenbroek, Cristiana Vignatelli, Marcel Wanders en Henk Wolvers.
25 March until 22 October 2017

Wall installation in a private house in Devon
Lovers of my work commissioned me to instal several objects in their house close to the sea in Devon.
The pieces I have chosen refer to the colours and special light of this beautiful location.
The openwork structure of the wall piece shows a transition from an open to a more closed surface and changes in colour from a light white to a darker white.

In summer and again in autumn I worked at Sanbao Studios in Jingdezhen.
I went to China twice to work at the Sanbao studios near Jingdezhen, the porcelain capital of China.
Jingdezhen has been producing pottery for 1700 years and it still plays an important part in its economy.
Sanbao is an international work centre, set up by Jackson Li, where artists can work in residence. It is situated in a picturesque setting on the outskirts of Jengdezhen. Artists can work in an atmosphere of quiet and tranquility.
I was inspired by Jengdezhen and used my personal interpretation in my work.
I worked at the centre for another 3 month period.
The EKWC offers ample facilities to artists of various disciplines to work with clay.
New surroundings and technical possibilities offer the opportunity to experiment and reflect to make new developments possible.
Radical Lace and Subversive Knitting was an exhibition of lace and knitting in the broadest sense of the word in the Museum of Arts and Design in New York.
In 2006 I was asked to participate in this exhibition, together with 40 artists of various nationalities and disciplines.
Curator David McFadden had visited my gallery and seen my work made at the EKWC.
Because of the lace like structure he wanted to include it in the exhibition.
2007 - Jewellery in cooperation with Hansje and Jaap Jorritsma.
In close cooperation with Hansje and Jaap Jorritsma I designed and made jewellery. My porcelain was mounted in silver by Hansje en Jaap.
The work of the 3 artists constitutes a balanced unity.
Irene van den Hurk designed a wooden box for the jewelery.
The gallery of Hansje and Jaap is in the centre of Eden.
Commission for the Textile Museum in Tilburg to fabricate a tufted carpet.
I designed a carpet and the Tilburg TextielMuseum was commissioned to fabricate it.
The carpet was based on the same design of the 50 piece wall object and was executed in black and white wool with a latex back. Because of the tufting technique it emanates playfulness.
2005 – Work period in the EKWC.
Koos de Jong, director of the EKWC (European Ceramics Work Centre) invited me to work at the centre for a 3 month period.
By drawing and writing with porcelain I created a new direction in my work. I succeeded in developing a new technique to make this feasible.
The residence in Dakar has been equipped with a wall object.
Carel Weber designed a new residence for the ambassador in Dakar, Senegal.
In the reception hall I installed a wall object made up of 280 white ‘boxes’ with one blue side.
Because of its position in the building the object can be seen from various directions, thus creating different perspectives.
